Vertigo Symptoms

Each one of us actually feels dizzy at one point in our lives. This is indeed a common condition for all to experience. But how do you know that what you are experiencing is not just dizziness, but is already a condition known as vertigo? To know whether or not you are affected with the balance disorder called vertigo, you would have to know the common vertigo symptoms people experience.

The common symptoms include dizziness, backaches, headaches, and imbalance. In the case of elderly patients, falling is most likely to occur as well. People afflicted with neurological disorders most likely suffer from vertigo as well.

If you experience one or more of these symptoms, it would be better for you to seek medical help right away. However, you should not assume immediately that you are already suffering from vertigo. The symptoms mentioned above are actually manifested in a lot of disorders associated with the central nervous system, as well as the cardiovascular system. Thus, you should not take it upon yourself to assume altogether that you are already affected with vertigo. It is wiser to seek medical help here because even your physician will have to refer to your medical history, just to come up with an accurate diagnosis.

There are actually easy ways to prevent vertigo, things that you yourself can try out easily. Now, these are not guaranteed to prevent all symptoms of vertigo from occurring; however, these can provide relief for the patient. First off, you should sleep with your head elevated just a bit. You can add a couple of pillows or more when you sleep for this. Secondly, when you get up in the morning, you should do this as slowly as possible. Do not rise from your bed fast because chances are, dizziness would set in. Take a minute or two to sit on your bed before you stand up and go about your routine.

Another thing to remember is not to bend down with just your back if you have to pick up something. Bend with your knees as well, to avoid vertigo altogether. All the same, when you are reaching for something situated higher than you, you should avoid craning your neck. This unnecessary strain on your neck can also cause vertigo.

Keeping these vertigo symptoms and tips on how to avoid the condition in mind are indeed important. It is always better to be informed on such conditions as much as possible, so that you can avoid whatever circumstances that can bring about these symptoms.
